Round 1 Preview – Snetterton
The Disklok Civic Cup is excited to be back in the BRSCC paddock for the second year, and looking forward to another great seasons racing. 2018 saw one of the closest and most competitive seasons to date for Civic Cup. With healthy grids averaging over 26 cars per round this one make championship did not disappoint. With a good mix of seasoned Civic Cup regulars and championship newcomers, last year’s title was again decided at the very last race of the year, with Rob Baker becoming champion just pipping Mark Grice to the crown at a wet Donington Park. Rob had topped the championship table since the early part of the season with a consistent run of results, but with three race wins to Robs single victory Mark began to close the gap, taking the lead of the championship after race 13. But it was Rob’s second place finish in a very wet final race that gave him just enough points to clinch the title showing just how important consistency over the year can be.
Over our fourteen races last year we enjoyed seeing nine different winners take the top step of the podium from forty-four different drivers who competed over the season. For 2019 we have already seen many familiar names return as well as newcomers from across many different motorsport disciplines. Hot favourites for the year are likely to be Jason Ballantyne who finished third last year, as well as Daniel Reason and Danny Hobson who all took two race wins during the season. Ben Sharpe and Bruce Winfield will be drivers to watch too, both ending last season with a win each at the final round. But also look out for Morgan Bailey and Michael Winkworth who join us as 2018 champions from the Swift Sport Rallycross and Class C Hot Hatch Championships respectively.
As a reminder the Disklok Civic Cup is a one make championship running 2000cc Honda Civic Type R EP3 and FN2 models from 2001 to 2013 The cars all run as a single class with identical power to weight limits and race over seven meetings with two races each weekend. The second race at each meeting uses a reverse grid for the top ten finishers, which combined with our tightly controlled regulations brings incredibly close and competitive racing.
