Tonks secures victory after race one thriller

Jamie Tonks emerged victorious from the first Milltek Sport Civic Cup race at Anglesey after early leader Matt Luff struggled later in the race and series leader Alistair Camp had an off-road moment, whilst Production Cup leader Mervyn Beckett took another victory.

Luff got a great start off the line and led the way ahead of Camp, Tonks and despite a moment at Church corner, series leader Camp managed to stay in second place as the top four drivers began to breakaway in the Cup Class in a battle pack that would dominate the front of the race.

Whilst Camp and tonks began to battle for second place, this allowed Luff to build a gap and also allow Dave Buky to close in and make it a top-five battle for the lead.

Phillip Wright was an early casualty as he pitted on lap one and rejoined the race on all three having dropped down the field whilst suspected suspension failure accounted for the retirement of Ross Darlington at the final corner, causing a yellow flag to come out there for the remainder of the race.

The final laps saw a dramatic change at the front with Camp and Luff holding each other up which allowed Tonks in the lead, followed by Camp then having a moment on the grass at Church corner.

Tonks took the race win ahead of Luff by over a second whilst Camp and Buky completed the top five in the Cup Class.

Mervyn Beckett continued his strong form by taking the Production Class win, having mixed it with several of the Cup Class drivers during the race, taking a commanding win over second-placed Alfie Threlfall with David Baldwin taking third place at the end of the race.

Harry Threlfall was in the mix during the Production Class race however fell down the order towards the end of the fifteen-minute encounter, which allowed both Baldwin, Matthew Stenning and local driver Rhys Lewis to gain places by the end of the race.

Race two is due to get underway at 16:00 pm BST, with live streaming coverage once again on our Social Media channels.
